This Crazy thing called EXAMS.

Dear Mayflowerians,

It was good to be back and it is amazing to see how much you have been impacted by the camp even after one month. The LIVE! Operation camp was one that had shown how resilient all of you were and how you could make a difference to each other. And there is no better time to apply it to life than what is going to happen next week. It’s the exams and many of you may be scared and others sian and still others excited. Do know that this is part of life and we will only live a greater life if we face up to the challenges that come our way. Come on its just a piece of paper and you will conquer it! So say WHOOSAY, hang your PSP in one corner and tell it : ILL BE BACK AFTER THE EXAMS! And let the exams be your PSP game that you will level up each time. So just do your best, believe that you can do it and put your self in a powerful state to conquer this thing we always love to hate!

MAYFLOWERIANS GIVE ME A WHOOSAY!

EXAMINATION TIPS

1) Study one chapter. Ask your friend study the other. And another friend another. Then discuss and compare notes! This way you no need to study everything and you get more value!

2) 80-20 Principle. 80 PER CENT of your notes is useless words like i and the and you and me. 20 is important words like CHEMICAL REACTION or ACIDIC or STAMFORD RAFFLES. Pick out the keywords and remember them!

3) Do breathing exercises. Inhale 5 seconds and inhale the good things in life. Exhale 5 seconds and exhale the negative stuff. Do it 10 times every morning.

4) Do success claps. The more you clap the more successful you’ll be. Okay this is just an energizer to keep you motivated!

5) Make your notes colourful and full of pictures. YOU WILL REMEMBER BETTER!

6) Use 10 minutes each time to TEXT your FRIENDS or play with your cat. Make sure these breaks last only 10 minutes. Remember DISCIPLINE is SOMETHING YOU DONT LIKE but REAP FUTURE REWARDS! So just set 10 minutes each time and obey the clock! Use this technique especially when your mind wanders cos when you WORK you WORK, when you PLAY you PLAY. THE 2 DONT MIX~!

7) Give 100 per cent. This might mean your day will look like this

EARLY MORNING – 10 PER CENT

LATE MORNING – 20 PER CENT

EARLY AFTERNOON – 0 PER CENT

LATE AFTERNOON -20 PER CENT

EARLY NIGHT -10 PER CENT

LATE NIGHT-40 PER CENT

Know when you energy is the highest and maximise it!!! Remember your mind and body is one. So know how to mix the 2 to produce incredible results!

8) Make INSPIRATIONAL POSTERS using DRAWING BLOCKS to MOTIVATE YOU! Paste it all around your room, places you can see-maybe the toilet even!

9) IF I CANT THEN I MUST. This is the law of de-procrastination. It is the very things that you dont want to do that you MUST DO NOW! Like learning and practising quadratic equations lah or chemistry formulas!

10) When life gets shaky, FOCUS ON YOUR OUTCOME.

Jump In,Get Involved!

“The point is what i found at a very young age was that if you only think about yourself, how much money  can i  make, what can i buy,what kind of fancy car do i have than over the long term i think you get bored. I think your life becomes-I think if you’re only thinking about yourself, your life becomes diminished and that the way to live a full life is to think about what can i do for others? How can I be a part of this larger project of making a better world? Now that could be as simple as making-as the joy of taking care of your family-and watching your children grow and succeed. But i think especially for the young people here, i hope you also consider other ways that you can serve, because the world has so many challenges right now.there’s so many opportunities to make a difference,and it would be a tragedy if all of you who are so talented and energetic, if you let that go to waste, if you just stood back and watched the world pass you by. Better to jump in, get involved. And it does means that sometimes you get criticised and sometimes you’ll fail and sometimes you’ll be disappointed, but you’ll have a great adventure, and at the end of your life hopefully you’ll be able to look back and say , i made a difference

That’s OBAMA’s words from the heart … Aint it true and aint that what will make our lives worthwhile? So go out there and make a difference in any way you can today!…

You are perfect aren’t you

“‘In the end, it’s these small things that you remember, little imperfections that make them perfect, for you.’

Hey guys, this may be just a commercial by the government to inspire and empower us to lead beuatiful family lives, yet it has a deeper meaning behind it. Simply the message is that sometimes we look for the grandest and biggest things to achieve in life and yet one day when we are gone, it is the little things that matter. The way you smile at someone, the small talks you have with your friends,brothers and sisters, yes even the snoring you endured with your friends at the SINGAPORE VISION FARM. Accept each other and especially yourself for the imperfections that you have each day cos that is the very thing that makes you perfect..the very thing that makes you special,,,that makes you unique..that makes you unique:) And that what makes our lives perfect:) So let us cherish ourselves and others more today and lead the perfectly imperfect lives we are supposed to live!

“To be perfect in a perfect world is imperfect, to be imperfect in an imperfect world is imperfect”

Dreams Come True :)

How many of you have dreams? Not necessary the dreams that you have when you go to bed at night. But the ones where you aspire to achieve something great in life. An astronaut maybe, an opera singer or even a teacher. Have you ever taught what legacy do you want to leave in this world or is there something you awfully want so much and has been scared to tell people about? The good news I’m going to tell you is that dreams must start as BIG as possible. dreams must be ridicuolous at first cos if its not ridiculous at one point in time, it aint worth pursuing. I mean who would have imagine the internet being a reality a mere 30 years ago? Real time connectivity across the globe. Live EPL matches? Yes dreams must start as AWESOME and BIG and RIDICULOUS possible. And you must tell yourself that this is my dream. Never be too shy to admit it to yourself…All right im going to show you two awesome videos about making dreams come true that comes from reality tv first….

The first is about a girl who just wanted to sing and knows her dream even at an early age. The other is a person who always had a dream but isnt sure about himself  even when he had the talent…The point is if you have a dream go for it, dont be afraid of failure, and let your light shine! See the little girl-she has such confidence and belief in herself that she could go out and catch her dream at an early age…Maybe somehting all of us can learn from? Be who you are, say what you feel, be yourself and chase the very dream that you want letting nothing stop in your way…So no matter who you are, where youre from or what age you are…you always have this chance to pursue a dream…go for it…dream big and find the resources you need to make the dream a reality!

“So every morning when i wake up, i have 2 CHOICES- i can go back to sleep and continue my dream or i can go out to the world out there and make my dream a reality”

The Living Legacy :)

THE LIVING LEGACY – MAYFLOWER SEC 3 2009

Mayflower : Blossom the Way

"Every Mayflower Will Bloom"

Mayflower-ians, give me a WHOOSAY! :) As we all look back at the simply wonderful camp, I believe there are so much that we love and cherish about all that happened within that 3D2N.

live-ops

This is just a simple appreciation from my part, and there are simply NO WORDS that can describe, how much this camp had made a difference to not only the Mayflower-ians, but also the impact it had, on every single Platoon Mentor (PM), Encik and not forgetting our dearest Captain Ridtz, who is the main person behind this beautiful blog :D

Yes, the camp may have been over, and as we look back, we should not be upset that it was over, but rather be glad that it happened. Personally, there were a lot of expectations to live up to, and as you guys hear about how impactful the camp in 2008 was from your seniors, there was an uncertainty if this batch of Sec 3 Class of 2009 is able to live up to it. Not only did you guys lived up to it, you surpassed and even left a legacy! =)

advanced-live1

As you reflect and leave your comments about the camp, I want you to think about how you and your class, or even your entire cohort can bring back the positive learning experiences you’ve gained in this camp. Most importantly at the end of the day, the camp is all about YOU. Not the PMs, Enciks or Capt Ridtz, but YOU. As you watch the video dedicated to this wonderful camp below, reflect and recall those moments which had really left a mark in your lives. Anchor the moment, and always remember that, WHO YOU ARE, MAKES A DIFFERENCE =)

“A journey of a THOUSAND MILES, begins with a SINGLE STEP.”

sign-board

I’d like to express my most sincere gratitude to every single one of you out there, because this camp wouldn’t had been so special, without you. Yes, EVERY SINGLE ONE of you =D  Thanks for showing me the light, because you made me re-discover my purpose and reason behind donning on the black shirt, with the words ” Empowering Lives, Designing Destinies” etched on the back. It is because of people like you out there whom have shown and proven to me, that every single little effort that I made, the hard work, the sweat, the tears, the pain.. They are all worthwhile, as I am who I am, because of you. The overwhelming scenes of the Graduation Parade and that of the moment ( Yes, the moment whereby the entire school stood and sang with unity during the Appreciation at the end of the CO night ) suddenly rang a bell in all of us: The reason why we are all here for =)

focus-on-your-outcome

Never had I before, felt the satisfaction and pride which I felt during the camp. Special mention to the classes which were priviledged to take on the challenge of the Postman’s Walk. Your perserverance and determination showed me how far you can actually go, and trust me, if you have the self-belief, you can go very far in life. Always remember, life is never going to be smooth-sailing, and when the going gets tough, tell the little devil in you to go away, and listen to your heart. Never say that you can’t, instead tell yourself that YES, I CAN! Focus on your outcome, put your heart and soul into it and you will overcome any obstacles that come onto your path. Hang on to your dreams, because every success story begins with a dream. Make it happen! It’s time to LIVE THE DREAM :]

Holding On till the End!Fight for your goal!

Mayflower Sec 3 Live Ops 2009 had been a great success, not because of what had taken place there and then during the camp, but because we all know, that you will bring them back to your lives, and pass the legacy on. Be proud that you are part of this living legacy.

rainbow

And from the bottom of my heart, together with that of all your beloved PMs and Enciks, we thank you all for giving us the time of our lives.

The memories will always live with us. We love Mayflower! MUACKS ;)

From your most beloved Encik Alvin,

You Raise Me Up!

Let’s reminisce the journey we’ve gone through :

“You Raise Me Up”

When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary;
When troubles come and my heart burdened be;
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence,
Until you come and sit awhile with me.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up… To more than I can be.

There is no life – no life without its hunger;
Each restless heart beats so imperfectly;
But when you come and I am filled with wonder,
Sometimes, I think I glimpse eternity.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up… To more than I can be.

“You raise me up… To more than I can be.”

=)

WHOOSAY!

Hi Troopers from MAYFLOWER!

1 Day has passed since Live! Operation ended. It has been an amazing journey for all, whether student, teachers or platoon mentors. From this camp, you united in strength, you learnt and discovered more about yourself and you formed memories that you will remember  for a long time to come! In the camp you went through activities that you once thought might be boring and mundane! Then when you did it with your PMs, put your 100 per cent and choose to create your own fun and meaning it became very exciting, didnt it? Like the drills and all the physical activities which you did in the camp that bonded you closer to one another and truly showed that if you worked together towards a common outcome, you can achieve anything!

The higher we clap the more successful we'll be!

The higher we clap the more successful we'll be!

Walking the extra mile!

Walking the extra mile!

We're Almost Home!

We're Almost Home!

And at the end of the camp, it is the process of everything that matters : the memories, the friendships, the struggles, the triumphs. It is the things we do together that truly counts, make it meaningful, and makes the world a better place. So let us from this moment bring this strong bond that you have, and a positive mindset of success and fun back to our lives and truly make each day of our life just like each day of camp!

Remember : If you look at what you have, you have everything!

So remember the difference this camp has made upon you and go out there and make a difference in the world! On the booklet that we gave you, there is a last pagewhich says I COMMIT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE TODAY! Yes it starts today not tommorow. Fill it up and paste it where everyone can see…maybe on your class notice board?

slide40

Go out there and take action and make this world a better place. Dont wait for the world to change. Be the change you want to see in the world! One person cant change the world, but one person can sure start to change the world and TOGETHER WE WILL ALL MAKE THE DIFFERENCE!
